Preventicare Program

Preventicare is a health care program designed to provide financial help (up to $5,000!) in the event of colic surgery for horse owners that follow health care guidelines recommended by Pfizer Animal Health.  The best part about Preventicare is that for the many of you that are already in compliance with the guidelines set by Pfizer, its like free colic insurance! Dr. Sergent feels that this is an excellent program.  Pfizer’s requirements for this program are merely the basics that everyone should be doing to insure the overall health of their horse.  To register and qualify for the Pfizer Preventicare program, all you need do is the following:                         

Have an annual physical exam, dental exam and dental “float” done by your enrolling veterinary clinic.

Have your veterinarian immunize your horse annually and semi annually.  

Use Strongid C 2X daily dewormer.  This must be purchased through your vet.  

Have your veterinarian deworm your horse twice a year with a Pfizer Ivermectin  product.

Participate in nutritional counseling with your veterinarian.

In return for your compliance with these guidelines, Pfizer will pay up to $5,000 of your horse’s colic bill if it should require surgery. All County Equine Services requires that Preventicare customers pay for the yearly services at the time of enrollment.  You also receive a free physical exam for your horse and a discount on Strongid C2X throughout the year.

We offer two levels of service within the Preventicare Program, Essentials and Premier.

Preventicare Essentials- This program includes all the required services for your horse’s annual enrollment in the Pfizer Preventicare Program for one fixed annual price.

In return for your compliance with these guidelines, Pfizer will pay up to $5,000 of your horse’s colic bill should your horse require surgery.  

Preventicare Premier- This program also fulfills the basic requirements for your horse’s annual enrollment in the Pfizer Preventicare Program and much more. It also includes 2 comprehensive physical exams, annual and semi annual vaccines, annual dental exam and float, worming, sheath cleaning and an annual fecal exam that can help to identify parasites to help insure that we treat them with the most effective de-worming products.

In addition to all of this the premier plan also includes:

Annual Musculo Skeletal Exam- Make sure your horse’s movement is as good as it can be.

Annual Laboratory analysis including: Complete Blood Count and Internal Organ Chemistry Profile. Catch potential problems early so they can be treated early!

Lateral X-rays of the front feet: Useful for diagnosing potential problems, also helps your farrier know if he/she is on the right track for keeping your horses feet balanced.

5% Discount on additional services: This applies to any additional services for the enrolled horse except call fees, emergencies and breeding services.
